Video Editing FAQs
Q. What is Non Linear Editing?
A. Non Linear Editing (NLE) is editing using random-access video storage. It means you can get access to your video from a hard drive randomly and instantly. The video files on your hard drive are just like normal Word documents, you can load, watch, manipulate, any part of the file in a non-linear mode. Instead of using jog shuttles and special video decks, you simply capture the video to your hard drive. You can then edit and rearrange the shots much like moving paragraphs around in your word processing program. Since the video is digitized, you can instantly get to any exact point in the video.
Q. What is FireWire?
A. Also known as IEEE1394 or iLink, FireWire is a interface standard that allows super high speed data transfer. When you use a DV (digital video) camcorder the video is passed directly from the camcorder to the hard drive. Because the signal stays digital through the entire process, you get zero loss and a final video with identical video quality to the original footage.
Q. Is your edit suite digital?
A. Yes. Our studio features two digital video editing suites. We take your tape and convert it from analog tape to a digital format. From that point on there is no loss of quality.
Q. I have several hours of videotapes that I need to have edited into a 10 minute video for my company. How do I start?
A. The best place to start is to give us a call. We can walk you through all the steps of the editing process. Not just what you can expect in one of our editing suites but what you can do to prepare for the edit before you come in. Tips that can save you time and money.
Q. I need to edit a video but I haven’t shot it yet. Can you give me some advice on that as well?
A. Absolutely! Perfect Image Video is also a video production facility, so we can give you excellent guidance how to make your production go smoothly. We are always here to help in any way we can.
Q. I need voice over talent and do not no where to go.
A. No problem, Perfect Image Video has a wide range of voice over talent available.
Q. Do we have to be there for our edit session?
A. Not necessarily. Many of our clients drop off their projects and give us detailed directions so we can edit their video on our own. When we are finished you simply come back for a viewing and can make changes or approval the final edit.
Q. Can I have my DVD on an endless loop?
A. Yes, for DVDs, we can program the disc to play endlessly on a DVD player. This is great for sales conventions, seminars, and wedding receptions.
